Migration Gravel stage 3 – Karaya takes win for Workforce Amani, Rockwell doubles up


Amity Rockwell (Trek/PAS/Maurten/Schwalbe) and Kenneth Karaya (Workforce AMANI) received stage 3 of the Migration Gravel Race on Thursday. It was Rockwell’s second stage victory of the week within the elite ladies’s competitors whereas Karaya’s win within the elite males represented the primary stage victory for the east African-based Workforce AMANI squad.

Rockwell took over the ladies’s GC lead, using solo throughout the road forward of Xaverine Nirere in second and Lydia Lglesias in third. Annabel Fisher (Café du Cycliste), who received stage 1, had abdomen points and completed off the rostrum.

The boys’s division was managed by German Lukas Baum (ORBEA x Leatt x Pace Firm) and Australian Lachlan Morton (EF Schooling-EasyPost) for the primary two days of racing. On stage 3, Baum suffered a mechanical and Morton took “a tour of Tanzania”, apparently organisers referring to him going off track. The 2 leaders apart supplied Karaya the chance to push away with a solo assault for the victory. Luis Angel Mate completed second and Seth Hakizimana was third.

The 140km route was speculated to be the best of the 4 levels, however 1,250-plus metres of elevation acquire mixed with muddy situations supplied no reprieve for the racers.
